What I saw in Syria, although difficult to manage and digest, showed me that there is a light of hope that is not extinguished in the soul of that people.
Syria has everything to be an extraordinary travel destination. In fact, it once was. The country just needs time to recover and its people a chance to rebuild.
Rebuilding and returning the cities, houses, streets to the world is the part that seemed simplest to me. Already healing the soul scars, it seems to me, will take time. I believe that for many generations the ghosts and wounds of the past will be present.
But I also believe in the ability of human beings to bring forth from the rubble the hope of better days. This is what I saw in Syria. People with an extraordinary capacity to create beautiful things, with their eyes on the future.
All the people we met in these days, who welcomed us with open arms, with whom we exchanged life stories and laughter, with whom we sang and danced, are the embodiment of hope.
The Syrian people just need the world to put aside its prejudices and embrace them, as willingly as they are to embrace the world.
